Dear Wabakimi paddlers!
We're asking for your donations to our 2022 Projects Fund! FOW is THE advocacy voice for Wabakimi. We're working to protect and enhance canoe route, habitat and wildlife, especially the iconic woodland caribou. There's real challenges for protecting the canoe routes and habitat in the Crown Lands surrounding Wabakimi provincial parks. Documenting these historic canoe routes was critical, but now we have to advocate in the forest planning process! Your membership and donations make FOW a stronger voice. Your exploration of the Wabakimi area supports protection and in the long term helps the local economy. We're here to help with that process. Vern Fish, President, FOW & the Board of Directors donate ONLINE HERE!We met our Fall 2021 goal!
Wabakimi Provincial Park has received $6,500 towards our 50% match: 1) $2,500 CAD for development & design costs & $2,000 for installing the first Kiosk, 2) Another $2,000 (or more) for a second Kiosk. (clearly we need more than one) 3) Up to $1,500 (depending) for commissioning a local First Nations artist for artwork which captures the essence of wabakimi/wildlife as part of our Kiosk. (and possibly other reproductions in support of this effort) The plan is to finish the design work in 2022 and complete installation in 2023, as part of the 40th Anniversary of the park's creation. Enhance Wabakimi Provincial Park visibility! Armstrong, Ontario (The Gateway to Wabakimi!) is 254km (158 miles) from Thunder Bay, where the park office and staff are located.
